Feeling low

Hello - just posting because feeling low at present.
AH has started drinking again - seriously. If you have been following my particular saga you will know that AH nearly died in the summer. A three week stay in hospital put him on the road to recovery - at least it would have been if he had stayed off the booze. For a while he was better - he didn't stop drinking but swapped neat brandy for beer, wine, etc. Recently he has started drinking again in earnest. And he is more obnoxious than ever. We are back to the mood swings, bad temper and row after row. If it wasn't for my life support of close friends, family and supportive colleagues I don't know how I would cope. (There are no Al-anon groups near me, unfortunately). But, cope I do. Just don't know when it will end.

Just wanted to say I am sorry that you are going through this Tish. I guess we never know when it will end. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. I hope everything will get easier in time. I wish I could help. Take care of you!

Tish,

There is an Alanon program right here at your fingertips.

I havent been to a face to face program in awhile, this is it for me, and I can say sometimes its better than face to face because sometimes an alanon meeting can be big and you have no time to share and vent. At Alanon meetings also they really dont like you to vent there too much, well that was my experience.

Here you have instant experience, strength and hope and special care and can let it all hang out. Were here for you and listening. And yes we know how frustrating it can be.
As you know last summer my XA almost died, he was a gonner, I thought. But you know these drunks have angels on their shoulders and they could outlive us.

When I was feeling 80% towards the A and 20% about my welfare last summer, for about a day, I straighten myself out , come back to the middle and know Im more important, my welfare and health are more important. Check in every day with us Tatty, until your back to the middle road . Before you engage in those rows with the A. You know this disease is a lifetime struggle for the A, it doesnt have to be for you.

Keep coming back Tish, Luv, Bettina

Awww, Tish, I'm sorry you're going through that. It is stories like this one that help me know, beyond a shadow of any doubt, that alcoholism is a disease. If it were a choice, it would be a possibility for a person that had suffered health consequences to simply stop. There is no logic to be found in a disease, however.

Will pray for you and your family - glad you are here.

(((Tish)))

I am so very sorry  I do know exactly what is going on and how difficult it is.  The serenity prayer and coming here at different times day or night helped me when nothing else could

You are not alone

I'm sorry for you pain, I feel it as I go through it constantly, no matter how many times my AH is near death, which is on a yearly basis, it's never ever enough for him to stop. It's the most insane thing ever. We can work and work and work our programs well, and i think that is what makes us go on to make it through a day, but i think we are always hanging by a thread. We always hold out hope and pray each time will be the last, we do this, because what else can we do but have hope and faith? None of us asked for this, yet we are in it, and by being able to talk about it with others who understand is always helpful to some degree.
I just don't know of any easy words to get through these things.....if I could, I'd give you a hug, because that's what I really need right now.

Tish sorry to hear of the challenges you are facing.  I remember the days of dealing with the active alcoholism and how difficult it was.  Maybe you could get your hands on some al-anon literature?  I am reading the How it Works book again and a fantastic book for me to read has been "Getting him Sober".  Maybe you have read it already.  I ordered it through my local bookstore and it contains strategies that work for getting through those times.  It can also be ordered through Amazon.

(((((Tish))))) and blessings to you.
