Aloha Roxie and Happy Thanksgiving.  You'll find many in this family that share
that part of your life and story too.  I do myself and I know what you must feel
like coming here.  Maybe today is the day you were suppose to find this family;
Thanksgiving Day.  What I am most grateful for today is that I found Al-Anon
myself and life turned around for me with the love and support of thousands of
members who share your journey.  You will never have to be alone with this again.  Let me share what I did just before I got help.  In the phone book in
your home is the hotline number for Al-Anon.  It should be there and call it.
If there is no live person to talk to there should be a recording for the meeting
(face to face) times and places where we get together to support and be supported
by others in the program. There will be literature (a lot of it free) that will help
you understand alcoholism and how it has affected your life as it has; read all
of it though some will be better than other, read all of it. Find a chair to sit
down and listen for an hour.  You won't have to do anything at first and just
listen.  Talk to others after the meeting if you have questions or wish to know
more and make sure to take literature that has the 12 steps, traditions, concepts
and slogans with you.   Make up a schedule for the next meeting you will go to
and phone numbers of those willing to step up and support you outside of the
meeting rooms.
Find a power greater than yourself...a God of your own personal understanding
and talk the Serenity Prayer with your Higher Power and then keep coming back
here.

We are called Miracles in Progress and now you're here.  Maybe your Higher
Power has already contacted you.

Happy Thanksgiving...glad you are here (((((hugs))))) smile

The best thing I ever did for myself was to get involved in this program. From this site, to the readings, to the meetings... It all helped me tremendously to understand how to take care of me.

Stick around, you will learn so much. And welcome to the board!

Roxie

Hello and welcome
I come from a family of alcoholics/addicts as does my husband. we moved when out kids were young to get them away from the daily drama.
My husband and I dont drink so our children werent raised in that enviornnemt yet out son became and addict. Started using drugs in early teens he is now 22.
So we have been living that nightmare for many years.
This program has been my saving grace, working this program has saved my sanity and my life and I say that in all seriouslness.
Pls fiind some alanon meetings in your area or join us here on line. We have twice daily meeting that are great. This will be the best gift you can give yourself.
You are no longer alone...we have all stood in your shoes. While our stories may differ a little we have all gone through the same feelings, pain that you have so we can understand as no other people can.
You have found a place of love and support and have found a family of people who will hold your hand and walk you through this step by step, we will be here to support you when you need it and rejoice with you as you progress in your own recovery.
This program is totally for YOU.
Keep coming back
Blessings

Alanon has only helped me since I came to it in July of this year. I found MIP at the end of July. I am grateful I found it because if I hadn't, I wouldn't have begun my healing process. It is a work in progress, and I am working hard every day, every minute. The tools I have learned that are helping me now, are remembering to detach with love when my bf drinks/uses. If I don't, I get really sick too. Keeping a sense of humor. The slogan nothing changes if nothing changes works very well. I have to change only me. I pray to my HP (higher power) to help me through each day. I ask for help to keep my focus on me and not him. He is beginning to want change in his life .... take care of you!
