The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Several folks here have described using this tool...tending to one's own side of the street. I am finding this to be extremely helpful, and it's something I've been actually visualizing today as I work to get past some neuroses. I plan to use it, and many other tools you all have taught me, as I enjoy this wonderful holiday weekend.
Blessings to you all. I am so grateful to have MIP in my life as part of my recovery.
You can "stay on your side of the street"... or, you can "stay inside your circle" (an imaginary circle around your feet.)
The goal is, everyone stays in their own space, in their own business. However, I can't have an expectation that people are going to respect mine. That's where the program teaches me to set boundaries for myself, but first..... there has to be a boundary for ME.
It's important for me to know where I end and other people begin.
It also helps me to remember, there are 3 kinds of Business... it's either my business, someone else's business, or God's business. If it's not my business, I run the risk of stepping outside my circle... or, running off my side of the street....
Thanksgiving is here, it is a great opportunity to practice our al-anon tools!! Thanks for the post.

"When you're in your holy zone, neuroses have no power. Fill the room with light, and darkness can't get in..."
This reminds me that if stay spiritually fit by working my program, I can handle anything. Of myself, I am nothing. With my HP, I can conquer anything.

I agree it's a great tool. I am reminded that in my earlier years before Al-Anon my Mother used the same tool, only she phrased it a bit different.........I was told many times by her.......... "Mind your own business RLC". Same meaning!!! LOL.
