Things I've learned....that I still forget sometimes....

1.  happiness is like physical conditioning...it must be practiced regularly in order to maintain.  To actually make gains takes harder work.
2.  Same with overall recovery.  Use it or lose it.  Must be worked on constantly...you never "arrive" and then be able to stop without sliding back.
3. Great suggestions from someone here (sorry, forgot who), to paraphrase: "If you had all the things you want in life (house, relationships, more money etc.) what would you be doing right this moment?  Then go ahead and do it."  Great thought
I realized that my life would not be all that different.  My possessions would be different and with the exception of maybe eating out more (although I love cooking) and going to more activities (broadway etc - but we do the local high school plays now, so we get out and see stuff - always looking for free or inexpensive community stuff to do and there's a surprisingly alot out there).  So I actually feel good about that.  I'm doing things I like....and if it's not top shelf stuff, it's ok because on some level I still enjoy it.
4.  Make sure I spend time with people I like and doing things I like.  This is key.  Nothing gets me down more than getting bogged down in chores and responsibilities.  I can balance this better and make time for myself.
5.  Meditation and prayer can be fun!  When practicing these regularly I find myself looking forward to it.  Even quite time alone with my thoughts, having conversations in my head (no I'm not crazy!) I can enjoy this at times as well.
6.  Good sleep and exercise make me feel better in general.
7.  I feel better about myself when I take care of myself in general...even simple things like a haircut etc.
8. I feel a sense of peace when i spend time listening instead of talking.  As well as pondering, instead of reacting.
9.  While I've felt envious about things people have in their lives (especially what is more than I have) I'm hard pressed to think of a person I'd rather be.  I mean when I think of personality, talent, job, and other attributes people have, I can't come up with the person that is so much better than myself that I'd rather be him!  This was quite a revelation for me!  While I don't feel superior to others, I'm pretty satisfied with who I am.  My caring nature, my talents, even my physical appearance (well i guess I'd not mind being 6'3" with a greek god physique instead of 5'9" with sort of a squat build - by hey who's quibbling biggrin)  my interests and intelligence level (While I dont' feel smarter than everyone, I like that I'm intelligent enough to appreciate some of the finer things in life (just that I can't afford alot of them furious ).
When I give it thought, I'm pretty satisfied with who I am.  Which leads to:
10.  Coveting what someone else has does me no good whatsoever.  I either have to focus on what I do have, what I like about myself or then work to get what it is I want.  I can focus on trying to obtain or attain, but as is often stated here, comparisons just make me miserable and serve no useful purpose.

I'm going to print this and keep a copy somewhere.  Something tells me I should be reading this list every day, or else I'll keep forgetting it.  confuse

WOW,

You have been working hard, and your brain has been ticking over in a really positive manner.

Baby steps, linked together, along with a positive thinking brainstorm are just what you needed to build up your new profile as a recipe for success.

Print it out and read it again and again and again.  You are soooo getting there. Step by step.

Standing on the sidelines cheering you,  clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif
