Uk Members Out there

Hi everyone,  This is my first post.  I'm an adult child of an alcoholic father and I have an alcoholic brother, husband, uncle, brother in law & sister in law.

I wondered if any UK members would like to reply to this post to share.  I have just started going to Al Anon.  I love reading everyone's posts.

Thanks

Podlin

Hello and a big warm welcome to you, and great that you found your way here, I am uk also, adult child of an A father, had an A brother and married to a now recovering A husband, Alanon has turned my world upside down and helped turn it right way back up for me and my family, it takes me an age to get something but I learnt to keep coming back, and listening and learning, I use this programme in all my affairs, and it is truly my life line, the wisdom and help here is priceless, and it's free to those of us affected by someone elses drinking, much love.

Good morning and welcome

This family helps so much and it is through them that I have done heaps of recovery.

I was married to an A for 20 years.  His brother and mother are A's too and the family is riddled with problems, very aggressive and overpowering, in fact it was all overwhelming and I got no support - simply accusation that I was my AH's cause for drinking.

It is good to have you here and remember that there is always someone to get in touch with when you feel overwhelmed.  No one has to go through this alone and MIP is a wealth of knowledge and practice.

No one will advise you (indeed that would be wrong for none are qualified to do so), but many will share experience and wisdom and what has worked for them.

Just for today, keep breathing, love yourself, and know that you are among friends and that you are NOT the cause of ANYONE's drinking.  You are simply living with the disease all around you and are affected by others drinking.

I am not from the UK, but I thought I would post anyway. There are many in alanon with similar experiences and traumas. I am learning daily about how to use the tools of the program in my whole life. Letting go and letting my HP do the work has helped and reading Courage to Change, Language of Letting Go, this board and all the shares and my sponsor have all helped me make the changes I need to start making... Just for today, I am taking care of me and keeping my thoughts on me. I ask my HP for help daily in this. Take care of you!

Aloha and I am from the middle of the lake on the other side of the planet and welcome
to MIP also.  It is absolutely right that you reached out for support and guidance
and I hope that helps others in your neighborhood in the future also.
I was also born into the disease of alcoholism.  That is the common problem and
Al-Anon and MIP are very large solutions.    Keep coming back.   (((((hugs))))) smile

Hi, thanks for your lovely replies. I appreciate the support and kindness that everyone has on this board.  I worded it wrongly in my first post - I would welcome ANY members replies outside the UK too!! I wasn't sure at first if there were any UK members, as I couldn't find a UK board but now I realise this one has members from all over the world!

Thanks
Podlin
