The world has been watching as the 32 Chilean miners have been brought to the surface alive after 69 days underneath the earth. This situation has got me thinking.
These men and their families never gave up. They have demonstrated faith, courage and perserverance in some of the harshest conditions. They expected the miracle of rescue to happen and it did. It took a whole lot of people from all over the world to help these men. It required the miners to do their part too. A team effort.
What would happen if we never lost the faith, the support and the belief in miracles? How would our recoveries be different? How would it be if we turned to our As and said "Yes, honey I do believe that you can get sober and stay sober?" How would it be if we turned to other Alanon members and said "Yes you can change your life for the better."?
Just about every hour since 11pm last night EST and miner has been brought to the surface. A new beginning for him and his family. When you think about it, whenever a newbie comes here or walks into a meeting for the first time it's a miracle. They have walked through the doors looking for a new beginning. A new life. When an addict goes to their first AA meeting, sober or not, they're looking for a new life.
We have heard many times the saying EXPECT MIRACLES. We should. Miracles do happen. With the love, support, ESH and lots of hard work, miracles can and do happen here everyday. They happen in Alanon, in AA, in NA. Recovery is absolutely possible. A new life is absolutely possible. We all have a hand in it. We are all responsible for making the miracles happen. Whether or not it's our life or someone's elses. We are part of the miracle. We just have to do the work.
If you don't believe me, watch the news today. Who would have thought that it was possible that 32 miners trapped far beneath the earth would survive 69 days and come home to their loved ones. Yes, they have a new journey ahead. It may not be easy for them. Same with us. But as each miner comes to the surface today I am reminded 32 times (and then some) over that miracles can and do happen every day. You just have to see them. Much love and blessings to you and your families.
