I guess I just feel to share this after reading "but for the grace of god go I" post. My son who is now 18 and in his first year of college was very affected by something that his high school did every three months. Two AA speakers came to share their stories in the auditorium every three months. You were excused from class if you decided to go. Needless to say I think all the classrooms were empty as any excuse to miss a class was reason enough to go :) Those stories stuck with my son and I am sure many many other children as well. I think children can have a very glamorized view of drinking and drugging at this impressionable age and that the reality of what can happen and what it can lead to can be very eye opening. Like everything else in life, you never know what someone may hear that sticks with them forever...I am grateful that the school had implemented this and made it so easily available to the kids and for the AA members that came and shared thier stories. It certainly affected my son and Im guessing someone elses kids as well :)
Wow! What a great program your son's school has!!!
Be great if more schools did that!
I remember when I was in high school we did have one such program one year where a band came and played for us that were all comprised of recoverying addicts. They did a little talking but mostly played music. I thought at the time that it somehow did more to glamorize the idea of the subject than drive home the dangers of addiction.
Call it a brilliant idea. WOW! I wonder what would have happened if it had been implemented all over the world? Even if it saved one kid from drinking & driving it would be so worth it. Much love and blessings to you and your family.

That is an amazingly progressive and farsighted tactic at the high school level.
I'm sure it sucked a lot of the perceived fun out of drinking and drugging for more than one of the students there.
I will mention the idea to our Public Outreach rep. It would be great if we could implement something similar here.

I think this should be done in ALL schools. As kids are starting to drink and drug at at an earlier age these days I think this program should start in Jr. High. That is an awesome program your sons school had Dream ! Wondering if we can start a movement to have this incorporated in all our schools Who knows how many young lives have been saved from this disease because of what your sons school did !
