And then we have young Lindsay Lohan.....

who fails a drug test upon her release from in-residence rehab of only 23 days.  She uses the "disease" excuse, explaining that substance abuse IS a disease and an abuser cannot be expected to be "cured" quickly.  What a convenient way to avoid taking responsibility for her actions.

I use her story as an example of how too many substance abusers resist answering for themselves and their actions.

It makes me angry.  Sorry.

Hi Diva.... I just had a similar conversation tonight with my 17 yr old son. I was talking to him about his beach excursion and my concerns (see post "But for the Grace of God go I"). In talking with him I spoke of my concern of predispostion to the disease of alcoholism , and he would hear nothing of it. In a nutshell, he said that he believes that people who drink excessively choose to do so, and that if they choose not to stop they are retarded (as his dad once was). He also spoke of AA, saying that it is a crock, and that alcoholics use being "powerless" and having a "greater power" as ways to keep themselves from having to be responsible for their actions.

Interesting, to say the least. I cerrtainly agree on some level. If only it was so simple

Blessings,
Lou

I also find it interesting that there are different laws for the rich and famous. Those who have the means to get any kind of recovery offerred out there, go to the most expensive rehabs etc and don't take advantage of it. Also who get arrested and charged with possesion or DUI's and spend a week in jail ( of course the part of the jail set up to take care of the rich and famous) while my son sits in jail almost a year for the same things ( not that he doesn't deserve to be there he does) and only have the rehab available to him that is provided by the state.
There is truly a double standard for those with money and resouces compared to those of us who have to rely on state run ( an ineffective) resources.
Ugh don't even get me started

I agree, and it makes me mad too....  Lindsay Lohan appears to be another "train wreck", similar to Britney Spears.....  I heard that her solution to her problems (her words) is that "maybe I need to have a baby to help me focus better".....  ugh....

I'm probably in the minority here, but I can't imagine what it must be like to grow up under the public's severe and absolutely nosey and sometimes downright cruel scrutiny. I'm willing to bet there's some history of some form of substance abuse in her family and it's just passed itself along to her.

Honestly, she's no different than any other addict, and perhaps could use some sympathy instead of judgement in her life. Not to the point of that sympathy enabling her.

Y'know.. just gotta detach with love.

I pray for the girl. Hope her HP helps her through her bottom whenever she reaches it.

Well Diva I also agree if it had been a normal average Joe they would have been in jail a long time ago.

Money and fame are killing her and i hope and pray she gets it before it kills her.

With Hope,
Andrea
