to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
This year's work is done. I have another deck i need to do next year but the one I targeted for this year is done. Did it come out great? Not really.....no carpenter is going to marvel at my skills. However I'd also say I'm not embarrassed by the work I did. Overall pretty decent, quite functional and nothing to be ashamed of. I give myself credit (that's always hard for me! ) for sticking with it even when frustrated, learning some tricks and being willing to make and fix mistakes when they happened.
I also have to thank my best friend who is a great carpenter for coming over today and helping me finish. He did some really hard stuff that I was completely baffled by. With his help a 4 day job (for me) got done in 7 hours.
Lessons learned here as well. While I don't particularly enjoy this type of work I learned that I can improve my skill, I can learn new tricks and that I can be gentle on myself for being less than perfect. Thanks all for support along the way.
Excellent!! I applaud your courage to try something new, and for being able to appreciate imperfection! I like to work with wood and build things...it was slow tedious unjoyful work prior to Al-Anon. I built many beautiful things....but it was only in the end product that I took any satisfaction, when others would compliment my work. Even then I would not hesitate to point on the imperfections.
Now I take pleasure in the process and don't sweat how "perfect" the product will turn out. And I keep my imperfections to myself thank you very much!!!
Congrats on getting the deck done. You stuck with it even when it seemed unmanagable to you and despite what errors you see on the deck...it is likely you are the only one who will notice them. And now you have learned all these new skills for when you build the other deck next year. Congrats! Job well done Blessings
Hey I am impressed! I will share I put a deck on my first home. I mean "I." Yank I put the cement things underneath AFTER I got the thing up. had to shove them in then put in those filler things...dumby. hey it stayed up and strong for over 20 years was plumb too.
Son just took it down to put up a new bigger one.
You are working on you to feel better, finishing projects.
My darn deck went down when I had to rent my house out. They put a horribly heavy gazebo on it. I just cannot do it myself physically anymore. Son is too busy. Just need to jack it up and red post it....sigh.
