Self care

I met a guy recently quite by chance who turned out to be a drug dealer.  I chose quite clearly not to be involved with him but I do still talk to him, now its if I meet him by chance.

Recently on a boiling hot day I was out doing errands, swamped with shopping bags, waterless and feeling absolutely exhausted.  Then I hear my name called and its him in his new Camero (he had in the shop for months as part of some of the chaos he lives, don't ask you can guess it was a drama)   There he was with the top down, sitting down in comfort and my feet were killng me.

When I was in victim mode I would certainly have asked for a ride after all "poor me".  This time I chose not to because I have decided to create distance (at the same time being pleasant) and sure enough he mentioned he had drugs in the car.

I got in many a car with people who had drugs, open alcohol, who were drunk, who were out of control.  Now after a few years of al anon I value myself more than to do that.  Of course I didn't lecture him or say anything but I did have that revelation.
I really never took into account I could (a) be killed, (b) find myself involved with even more unsavory charactors thant he one I knew and last but not least (c) arrested because of course anyone who is in the car if there are drugs in it are arrested!

Thanks Maresie,

A great example of self care in choosing who you will make connections with and who you will not.

Hugs, Rocky

Thank You Maresie

That is a great example of focusing on yourself and making definate choices that are in your own best interest.

In addition, you showed me how to let go of  maintaining  the victim role and to stop judging and to Live and Let Live

Thanks again for sharing the journey

Taking care of myself is something that has to be a conscious thought...I just don't do it automatically.no
