The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
came into the room this Super Saturday AFG meeting morning. What else could I feel and then do what I felt and was done for me when I first got here. While the rest of the group seemed for the moment to forget what it was like I certainly didn't and I heard, felt, and reexperienced her pain. Who cared what her name was...for the moment it was Jerry F. Who cared what her story was...for the moment it was Jerry F's. What spoke to me when I first got into the program for real was the first hug at the end of the meeting and the words, "We understand, you are not alone anymore" (RLC says it often). Now I know here name and part of her story. It's always the same...change the names and the story stays the same. It broke my heart and I remember my sponsor telling me that when it fails to do that it is time to turn the person over to another meeting and sit down and remember where I came from before reaching the doors of the program.
Remember what it felt like, sounded like, looked like, smelled like and tasted like the day before you got to the doors of Al-Anon?. Next chance you get go hug the newcomer first and then talk story with the old timers. (((hugs)))
Amen to THAT (((Jerry))) How would we have reacted if we had been met with judgements instead of empathy? I probably would have walked away and never looked back.

I agree!!! It was so very important to feel safe. The acceptance and the non -judgemental attitudes of the members assured me that I had found an oasis in the storm!!!
Remembering to place alanon principles above my personality is so very important before I share my ESH
Thanks for the reminder
