I haven't been on here for quite some time. The last time I posted, my husband was in detox. He had a pretty good almost-year, but in May he slipped and broke a boundary that I had set (that there will be no more drug use in the house). So I asked him to leave and we're now separated.
I'm now actually the happiest I've ever been. I've been going to my f2f meetings for a year now (just celebrated and got my one year coin, which was awesome) and I've been working with my sponsor and even talking with some newcomers who have told me that they look forward to getting as much out of the program as I have.
I have completed morphed into a new person...I used to be incredibly shy and isolated and afraid of people. Now I have a lot of Al-Anon friends, and people both within and outside of the program have referred to me as "outgoing" (which truly is amazing compared to how I used to be).
Of course I have my moments where life feels hard, but I have an amazing support network to reach out to in those moments and I find myself feeling better before I know it.
Thanks for that terrific update. Good for you! Sounds like you did great in setting a boundary and consequences to protect yourself. I understand what you mean about how working the program can change who we are. Last night I was out with 3 alanon friends and attended a function in my town that has been going on at least as long as I have lived here (7 years). I paused for a minute to savour the moment as I had NEVER been before. My galpals couldn't believe it. It's in looking back that I can fully understand just how isolated I had become. Thanks for sharing, and keep the inspiration coming!
Happy Anniversay Sterling!! Yay a Year and have grown sooo much. Only you have done the work and kept your promises to your recovery. Wow awesome!! Keep coming back and practice your 12th step. (((((hugs)))))
Welcome back stranger. You sound confident, strong and wonderful. Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary. Please don't be a stranger. We could use your ESH. What a great example you are. Much love and blessings to you and your family.
Live strong, Karilynn & Pipers Kitty
