Changing the things I can...

I am working on learning to meditate.  I can do it when I am in therapy, no problem, my therapist can take me down into a trance state and that is great.  I am working on being able to do it on my own.  I found a CD that has meditations on it that work on panic attacks (something I suffer with).  So I am working on changing the fact that I don't feel I can relax on my own.
Another thing to change that I can is projecting.  I project and catastrophize about everything in the future.  I am learning that all I have to do is live right now.  Just this one minute is all that counts.  Yesterday is gone and tomorrow I have no control over and to worry about it will just bring more panic and anxiety...  I will breathe and live in the moment.  Worrying doesn't give me control over the future, it just makes it so I am not living right now....  THank you for reading...

I hear you on this.  I used to have terrible anxiety and panic attacks....still have anxiety from time to time but usually doesn't rise to panic.  There were several things that helped but the most helpful was a mindset:
"Panic attacks are like unwanted visitors"....you have to put up with them for a little while, but eventually they leave.  Once I accepted my panic attacks as something that will come and go (like a cold) I found they lost power over me.

Meditation is something I did alot in the past....it can help as well...I don't know that I got into a trance state (not sure I'd recognize it if I did) but certainly it could relax me and focus me at times.  Good luck with it.

I'm so glad you are working on taking care of yourself.  I've certainly been a worrier and obsessor.  I can get off that train now once I am on it.

I'm also a big fan of meditation. There are many resources for trying.

I'm so thrilled you are searching out new avenues to help yourself.

Maresie.
