Dealing with A-brothers and A father,

Hi All,
One of my A-brothers has turned up well and is working, so good news, there had been no word off him for a good few months so I am glad his HP is looking out for him. Today I handed it over. My father is pissed at me because I will not ring him. I have had to detach from this situation for a number of reasons. I feel no bitterness for him and wish him well.

My other A-brother is going downhill, very dirty and unkempt and unhealthy, looking very blue in the face. I'm very fond of him but am powerless over this disease. It is a horrible disease.

My half sister and her husband are coming over to visit in a few weeks and I have been assertive this year. I have purchased some lovely cardigans for the little girls but am not having them visit me as last year it was just awful, very awkward and I explained to my father that I simply was not up to it this year and I'm not. My half sister tends to use these occasions as a stick to beat me with and play games. Last year I cooked a lot of food in preparation as I was told by them that they were coming for dinner. When they arrived it all went to waste as they told me that they had already eaten. It was at a time that I had just no money, no work and I felt very bitter about it. I can't allow myself to be put in those positions again willingly as I care for myself.

I think that you are talking about boundaries. No need to apologize for taking care of yourself. Hope it all goes well.

In support,
Nancy

Good for you.  What a great sense of priorities and limits.  My family has no boundaries either and I have to set tremendous limits with them.  My elder sister once showed up at a PO Box I rented (I live 10,000 miles from here) and demanded they call me as she was in town.  I did not go to collect my  mail for a few weeks and I got a really stinky letter saying I was rude, insensitive and ungracious.  I had no idea she was coming!!!!

I'm very proud of you that you are not being ensnared this year.

Maresie.
