Shared my story

WOW.......what an awesome experience.
I tried all week to go through what I was going to say and I would get so far and then nothing seemed in the right order so I figured it just wasn't the right time.

So, I started off my talk with "I have no idea where this is going but my higher power and I will figure it out as we go along."  The meeting room was packed and I suprised myself because I wasn't nervous at all and actually talked for 45 minutes.  Not bad for the first time.

I was so afraid that I would end up telling my A/DA's story and not mine but was assured afterwards that I didn't do that.  WHEW....big load off my mind.

A double reward for the evening....my hubby admitted to the group that he is an alcoholic.  He stopped drinking without meetings and has been sober for 18 years, however he did tell them that regardless of not going to meetings he is confident that he is an alcoholic.

I then made my amends to the group for all the times I had told them that I had no frame of reference for dealing with an alcoholic spouse.  I could not violate hubby's anonimity until he revealed it himself.  He actually came to me the day after I was asked to speak and told me that if I needed to tell part of his story in order to tell mine that he was ok with it but he wanted to address the group first.  He got a standing ovation.  He told my sponsor afterwards that he figured if he was going to get outed he wanted to be the one to do the outing.  LOL

What an awesome night!

We had a speaker meeting last nite too & one of my friends/sponsees shared her story for the 1st time -she did a great job too.

LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing the program working !

HUGS to you,

** hey by chance did they record your story - cause if so I would LOVE to listen to the tape - I'd gladly reimburse you the cost of mailing it to me if you have a copy and are comfortable sharing it. I have a copy of mine - we could exchange like Pen Pals - lol**

Congrats to you!  It has to be tough to tell your story... I know my day will be coming but I don't have a clue of what I would say.  I hope when the day arrives that I am asked to share "my story" my HP will be hanging around to assist!  smile

Rita, I did not even think about recording it, wish I had though so I could listen to it ten years from now and have a true picture of where I was and where I have come.

Thank you all for your wonderful words...I just said "ok HP lets get this started, opened my mouth and started talking."

((((MO!!))))...so very exciting...congradulations on the growth and I would also have
loved to hear that tape.  The program should have more recorders is a thought I've
had for a while.   Your hubby is not drinking and missing some of his own miracle
and then it goes that way at times huh?   smile

Your post brought 'happy' tears to my eyes as I read it.  I'm so happy for you!

Woo-hoo to you!

BTW, I went to my first speaker's meeting the other night, and I noticed that it was recorded.  Good idea.
