Suggesting rather than overdoing.

I've come to realize that what I thought were suggestions were actually things I used to "do" for other people.

These days in the reign of let go and let god I do make suggestions and I leave it at that.  That is suggestions in terms of what to take for a cold rather than what's wrong with their lives......

Maresie.

HI Maresie I can relate

Suggesting is something I must be very careful with.

There is a reading in the ODAT that pointed out ,  that before I give anyone advise or suggestions I must ask myself "DID THEY ASK"   That really spoke to me.

Here and with alanon friends, I can suggest program tools, readings, meetings slogans and feel as if i am really contributing to someones  well being.

Before alanon I would make suggestions, based on my opinion. I would become insulted  or feel less than if the person did not do what I suggested.  I am so glad for alanon and learning to respect others.

Being able to support my friends without giving advise  and only making suggestions with no expectations,  is a  valuable  tool for my serenity.

Thanks for the topic
