The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method

level.
Apparently my offer of giving away free copies of the "Getting Them Sober" volume one, by Toby Rice Drews, has raised the ire of the MIP business group, and they have removed my offer from the board. While this group may, indeed, have the "power" to take such action, could I please request that somebody please PM me, to advise me of the rationale behind this? I got no information whatsoever - I happened to read this month's business meeting minutes, and see that this was an item buried deep in the agenda, with not even a PM or any communication whatsoever.

I was at the business meeting when this was discussed. It was stated by several people that the book was not WSO approved literature it also stated by several people that the book is discussed in the chat room all the time and many times people have advised newcomers that it was an excellent book. A vote was taken and unfortunatly those who thought because it was not WSO approved out numbered those who believed it to be a good resourse. I am sorry you were not advised of the outcome, not sure whos respondsibilty that was. I personally would like to thank you for making that book possible for so many of us...it was truly a selfless gesture on your part.
Sorry you are upset and I find it understandable. This is the reason I posted about "Group Conscience". I realized some things are happening that I don't agree with and the only way to have a voice is to take part in the group conscience.
I am going to respond to David's post re: CAL literature. Feel free to chime in.
I hope I see you in the next meeting.

Doesn't removing a free offer for a wonderful recovery tool based on 'Al-Anon approved literature only' defeat the purpose of the message board statement...

If this is changing, it might be a good idea to remove that statement as well...
By the way, "Getting Them Sober" saved my sanity and gave me my life back.

Looks like your question has been answered (not that I could help in that area!) but I do remember the free book offer sticky post and I almost took you up on it, but managed to find a copy to purchase elsewhere and figured I'd save the freebies for folks who perhaps couldn't afford one.
Maybe put the offer in your post signature instead? Just a thought.
edited to add: Hey, I'm a "veteran member" now! Woo hoo!

Tom - I am sorry you are offended and would be as well. Not so much by the removal of the post, but by the lack of communication. That just doesn't work well, for me!
I am one, like above, who purchased the book locally - feeling the 'free' should better be used by those who might have limited resources. But, I thank you and truly appreciate the fellowship and sincerity you showed by offering such a valuable resource.
May you know that your offer helped countless members here and am certain it will continue to do so - I guess we now just have to use PM?

I have been away from the message board for awhile. Life just got busy. When I was confused and at the end of my rope, I looked forward to Tom's book arriving in the mail. I couldn't wait to read it. When it arrived, I read and read. I so wanted to understand my alcoholic better and the things that he was going through. He was newly sober, and I just needed insight. I continue to read the book, and I am very thankful for it. Just wanted to share.
I purchased this book some time ago, and found it to be insightful and extremely helpful.
I am sorry that the offer, which made this book available to those who cannot afford it, was rescinded. History shows it's dicey when "non approved" literature begins to disappear from shelves.
