so far so good

This is an update to my post a few days ago, ¨I have to do this¨.  Anyway, since getting AH to the Dr. he found nothing obviously wrong with him except his drinking. AH said he wanted to quit and it's been three days so far. He looks so much better already. Had some withdrawal symptoms the first two days, but to a lesser degree today. Still a little on edge and irritable but I expected that knowing this is a difficult time he's going through.  I know this is not the solution to everything, but I'm so happy he's made this decision. It's a beginning and I just have to take it one day at a time from here.

abbyal, I did a lot of research on withdrawal and detox and know what can happen. The dr. has him on medication and is seeing him again today. Plus, I've been sticking real close to him these past few days to keep an eye on him. Thanks for your concern.

I would highly recommend he go to AA meetings. They say 90 in 90 which means going to 90 meetings the first 90 days.

I have brought my AH to the ER many times because he is sure that he is dying...
The last time I did, the doctor (they have all pretty much figured out his problem)
pretty much read him the riot act. Wouldn't give him any narcotic for pain and told
him to sober up.  Then the MD pulled me into the hall and asked me if I understood
WHY he wouldn't give him any narcotic?  Talk about a low moment.  After my AH sobered up, I explained to my AH that I would no longer be bringing him to the ER unless it was a true emergency; i.e. bleeding from every orifice of his body. I also told him that I am his wife, NOT his Mother.  Since that time, he has been sober, going to
meetings, and reading the literature.  "One day at a time." I find it really interesting that everytime he puts down the bottle, the pain gets better...hmm

Good luck to you.
