Hope

I just realized that this is February and that means Valentine's day is coming. S I wanted to post something about love.

I proposed to my wife in a parking lot. It wasn't very romantic. and I know you find that shocking because I'm a very romantic guy. So I tried to think of another way to do it that would be more romantic.

AA in our area has an Entertainment Committee and the EC puts on dances for the 12 step community. So, Nancy and I had tickets to the New Years Eve Dance in 1998. I had a little chat with the DJ and about halfway into the event, he played Rod Stewart's song Have I told you lately that I love you. she's a big fan of Rod. Halfway through the song, he shone the spotlight on us and I got down on one knee and proposed the way its supposed to be done. Of course she'd already said yes once and she said yes again.

So we got married one year later. New Years Eve 1999, on the eve of the millenium. And let me tell ya, you ain't never been to a wedding till ya been to one that the Fellowship puts on. The ceremony opened with the full length version of the Serenity Prayer, a gentleman from AA read the Prayer of St. Francis and a dear Al-Anon friend of ours who has since passed away read the Footprints poem. We wrote our own vows and they were real tearjerkers. And then as we were walking down the aisle to begin our new life, everyone sang One Day At A Time.

I was walking on air. I didn't think anything could be more wonderful. The following year at the AA/Al-anon/Alateen convention (its in February), we were just wandering around and we noticed the DJ was setting up for the dance and it was not just any DJ. It was our DJ. When he saw us, he spoke to the people setting up, they nodded, dimmed the lights, locked the ballroom doors and he played one of our favorite songs while we danced alone in the ballroom of the Holiday Inn. What a gift he gave us.

That was ten years ago. We'll be at the convention. Its the weekend of Feb. 19-21, still at the Holiday Inn on Wyse Road in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. I'm sure our DJ will be there. I don't know if we'll have the room all to ourselves but then again when we dance its like there's no one else in the room anyway.

Have a great february.

Hey Wolfie - love the story and how very cool!  Treasure and cherish always those special moments - they're the ones that make one smile from the inside out.

May your convention be just as great/special this year as it has been!  biggrin
