The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Mine comes from a commercial that was out a few years ago, "Press the easy button." I am trying to simplify my life and do things the easy way. Living with an alcoholic is too much for most of us. Some things in life (dinner, etc ) ought to be easy.
LOL...I like the thread...How bout "If it ain't broke don't fix it". Or the one my sponsor taught me to get me out of denial that my spouse was severely alcoholic, "If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like at duck....it's a duck!!" That helped me not get into a discussion with the alcoholic and everytime she tried to convince me she wasn't an alcoholic all I'd hear was "QUACK!!" I love "God don't make junk!!"
I'm also not sure of the source, but so very often when my brain is in a jumble, this phrase, with many others helps me.
And often - it's super literal for me. I function better when that which I can control is in order so...that clean house may mean 'clean the house' or it may mean take a mini inventory, call another to vent, etc.
Great Topic - thank you.

This isn't really a slogan, but I use it a lot with high school students: How's it working for ya?
Whenever I need to conference with one of them due to inappropriate and/or poor choices, I first listen to their explanation and then ask this question. Nearly, every time the student will crack up. It seems to open the path to discussing a better way of doing things.
(I use it with me, too, whenever I'm evaluating my choices.) It works!
I borrowed that question from Dr. Phil; I used to watch his show in the beginning. But got burnt out. A little of the doc goes a long way with me.
