INTERLOCKING BREATHALYZER

My son has one on his truck for a dui. His truck is old and some of the lights on his running board don't go out right away. It is an electrical problem that he really doesn't have the money to get fixed. Anyway...a lot of the time he has to jump start it with mine or hubby's car. The battery finally died and would not jumpstart. Hubby was working on it. He unhooked the battery and hooked up another one but it did not fit in the truck. He took him to get a new battery, which he did pay for.

He got a notice from MVA today that he failed to start his car and that this was his 4th failure. The first notice he got was for a date he was in rehab. That definately was a mistake but they would not listen to reason. They said ok then you must have a ghost living in your car. My husband or myself had not tried to move his car at all.

So, today they tell him to turn in the interlock and he must lose his license for 90 days or he can go to their court and fight it. He must send them $125.00 to do that. He does not have $125.00 as he is collecting unemployment and only has enought to pay child support for 2 children and his main bills. I am not even making him pay me rent at this time. I know, I know....that is probably a mistake but all I really care about is that he doesn't get behind on his support.

I am not giving him the money and am feeling bad about that. He has not asked for it because I usually offer it. This time I am not offering to help him. I also don't want the responsibility of riding him around when he needs to go somewhere.

He is really upset and I am really powerless over this. Although, I am ticked off at MVA because I kow for sure that 2 out of the 4 times he did not even try to start the car and I know that those things are known to fail. I am powerless over that too.

Thanks...not really looking for esh here just needed to vent.

Gailey,

As the chief mechanic @ my house (with two old cars to maintain), I can relate to your situation.  :)
Your son is on unemployment and is living at your house.
Couple of thoughts:

-Being without a car is the consequence of your son's own actions (yes, I know things may be more complicated due to this electrical problem, but the fact remains, he got himself into this situation).  -Since he isn't working, sounds like he can do without a car for a while, anyway..

-Can he paint  or do some other chores around the house to cover the rent and/or any assistance you may be providing?

Hope things work out for you.
Please take what is helpful and discard the rest.
