Times newspaper article today

This article was in the Times newspaper today.....may be of interest to some.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/features/article7002002.ece

At long last in one part of the UK the effect on children of a parent drinking is being recognised..... and addressed......hopefully this help will spread to other much needed areas.

Hope the link works

Thanks Ness that was very informative and I thought it would be helpful to contact
them and introduce them to the Alateen program as a social model, peer support
group.  There are many benefits to it.  I am going to contact them and see if the
information would be helpful.

((((hugs)))) smile

Hi Jerry......I know that here in Scotland the NHS is becoming more aware of Al-anon and Alateen, Ive spoken with my own g.p (doctor) about both and she now promotes them when appropriate. Sadly not all doctors are willing!!

I know that when he avails himself of it, the help my son receives is more often than not given by people in recovery themselves and, one interesting point, they mostly keep their illness off their CV (discrimination sadly) but promote AA and Al-anon because they know it works. So theres  a lot of good people in recovery out there quietly doing service.

Because we are a programme of attraction not promotion we maybe dont reach as many as we could with expensive advertising but I truly believe that when we are ready to find recovery Al-anon finds us one way or another.

I'll contact the Times as well......more the merrier eh wink.gif

Thanks for sharing the article.  It's a good read, and while reading the comments, it appears funding issues may limit it for the future.  That's truly sad... - your write/mention of Alanon/Alateen are a great idea - esp. with an uncertain future for the program.

Bless those children and all others who are afflicted by this disease.

I agree with you Ness and from my own personal experiences...in spite of the
remaining resistence to our type of "therapy/recovery" our attractiveness is
apart of the reason why the professional fields are unlocking the door.  You
cannot resist what truely works especially if what you are doing doesn't.  I
pray for more acceptance and I do service as a program member and anonymously
also.  I am though not HP...only an instrument and I am not alone...so are you and
others here and we make a difference.   I am delighted that a professional in the
field referred MIP...Isn't that incredible?!!    Thank you John and Rose.  (((hugs))) smile
