I tell ya, doing something for yourself really does add to a persons life. We all have our own passions. Mine is animals. Caring for them, watching them, loving them.
Al Anon was one tool in teaching me it is ok to focus on me. AND it can be good stuff.
To me animals are real. They reflect who created them. They remind me how I do not want drama in my life, that its ok to be patient, and to be mellow no matter what is going on.
right now Fred the tortoise is walking all over the house. I put bits of his salad all over for him to forage around for. What a simple life.
Was not so simple when he was carrying my bedside table on his back, and when he got his foot stuck in the dogs metal water bowl and was clanking around the house!
Its so nice to be able to focus on fun, every day life things. Well for Eden anyway!
My last name is McPhate now, not Potter. btw. love, debilyn grateful to be where I am

Great photos Debilyn. Yes, we all need our passions. Mine is gardening. Growing and caring for my plants makes me feel good. At the same time I'm helping to create a habitat for the birds, butterflies, frogs, etc. And that feels good too. I now have an image in my head of a tortoise walking around the house with a table on his back and a dog bowl on his foot! Thanks for the laugh it's given me.
I so agree about animals. My little dog is so precious to me - it doesn't matter what I do or how rough a day I have, she still smiles (yep! she smiles!) and loves on me and I laugh watching how much she loves life. She gets ecstatic at simple little things ... sitting in a sun spot, taking a short nap, going for a walk or a car ride, sitting with me on the couch. It reminds me that I, too, can take pleasure in simple things.
Those photos are great and what a beautiful creature! I too enjoy the TV watching.
I believe that our pets keep me grounded and in the moment. Our dog, Layla, is a rescue and is very 'uncertain' around males. Needless to say, she's taken to me and is slowly trusting the 3 amigos in my home.
She runs for under the bed when she's scared and she tries to be a lap dog (60 lbs.) when given the choice.
We also have a lizard - Angel. They both remind me every day to keep it simple and live in the moment.
Thanks for sharing the photos!!
