The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Our f2f group decided that the first Friday meeting of everymonth we would now devote to a Step Meeting. A step a month for 2010. We all loveeee the idea....This was decided AFTER I had already signed up to lead that night as it will be my one year anniversary.
I did my first round through the steps with an amazing sponsor and lady and with the Pathways to recovery and the co dependants guide to the 12 steps. I have tons of AlAnon conference approved literature but no idea where to begin:)
Question is this............I've never been to a step meeting, never lead a step meeting........so where do I begin and how does one do it????
Any input would be awesome, as I want to make it a great start to the New Year for my home group and we are all really looking forward to working the steps....
thanks so much shelly

Good plan shelly , I attend a step group ( discussion only ) In our book How Al-Anon works the steps are condenced into short paragraphs , u could ask someone to read and share thier thoughts on the steps . I really really like our booklet on 12 steps and traditions too, message is short and sweet and to the point . OR Ask the group to share thier fav passage on step one . Your gonna love it and you will do j ust fine . Louise
I agree with Abby Step meetings are great and actually my favorite!!! Here we have the members read read two to three readings from the Courage to Change or the ODAT on the step we are studing. We then open the meeting to sharing on the Step in a round robin format. The meetings just flow wonderfully and so much program is shared. Good Luck
Shelly, What Louise and Betty shared with you are things we do at our f2f as well for step and tradition meetings. (Typically the first meeting is a step, the next week a tradition and then open topics for the other nights)
We also have passed around the Paths to Recovery book and each picked a question at the end of the step/tradition and answered it.
Whatever you decide on it will be a great meeting.
Yours in recovery, Mandy

When we have any topic, step or otherwise, we just read a passage from whatever liturature is handy and then share round robin style about what it means or questions we have about the topic. We allow questions because ours is a small meeting and we have several new people with only a couple or months in the program. We just take turns going around the room and sharing.
Any way you do it will be great. There is no one right way.
In recovery,

A Happy Anniversay coming up? Yowzers Shelly!! I hope you the best one ever!!
There are lotsa ways to do the meetings on any subject. We've done all of the steps as has been suggested here including "ask it" baskets where a member asks a question about the step on a piece of paper and then folds it and drops it into the basket which goes around and then someone gets to pick someone elses concern or awareness and shares on it themselves. There is no end to the imagination when using CAL and the group.
You'll do fine and I'd like to here what you did and how it came out. Might want to duplicate it here in Hilo. (((((hugs)))))
