Many of you know me by my story in the Forum. Well the son in program went back out and is now in Detox at the Veteran's Hospital.
They recommended Celebrate Recovery for him but I contacted them and they want $40,000 for 90 days. Can someone tell me what drug addict or alcoholic has that kind of money? There has to be another answer.
He asked me to search the web for him and see what I could find but right now my brain is a bit on the mushy side. This is all just too raw for me. I just lost my sister to this disease and now my son is on the downhill slide. On the upside he was honest with us and told us that what we thought was the flu was withdrawal and he needed help. There's one positive in this. He did make the phone call to the VA asking for help. Another positive. I swore I was going to back off and let him find out this information for himself and where am I? On the net looking for answers for him. My sponsor is going to give me one of those looks that I hate. He can stay at the VA and do rehab there but I'm not real sure about their success rate. On the other hand the success is up to the individual not the treatment center.
If anyone has any information about affordable rehab I would really appreciate the help. Thanks Barb

My son has been in rehab twice, and neither was too open with their success rates. I think you are right, the success depends on the mindset of the person going through rehab. I have struggled with enabling - what to do for my son and what not to do. The advice that made the most sense to me was help them in their sobriety, but not in their disease. Good luck to you and your son.
Is he going to AA? That would be something I'd want to know before getting involved in finding rehab for him -- is he really determined, and why isn't he doing his own search?
encourage your son to walk into any meeting AA or NA and they will walk with him thru this , one day at a time all he has to do is reach out . Hundreds of thousands have stayed sober in a program with out rehab . as u have found out they don't always work anyway . If an A is truly serious for sobreity he will go to any length to get it , and walking into a meeting and asking for help is the first step.
I believe the success rate has more to do with the addicted person's will than the place in which detoxification is accomplished. $40,000 does little to guarantee sobriety, but probably does a lot to guarantee luxurious surroundings. I would think that detox at the VA would be as effective (or not) as an expensive, resort-style center.
If you have a yen to spend $40,000, go buy yourself a 2010 Mustang Shelby!!!!!

I found that the Salvation Army Rehab, which is funded by the state and donations and free to the residents to be wonderful. My addict son was sent to it by the judge and ordered to stay for 6 months, he had no money and niether did we so it was a blessing. The Salvation Army is a 12 step plus christin based program and they offer work to the men in their thrift shops while staying there...they are paid a very small amount but it gives them enough to make calls home and buy small personal items. When the men first go in there ...there is no contact for the first month, this is to allow them to get used to their new way of life, and it is difficult for both them and us as parents But it is what seems to work. They have a very good rate on recovery stats for these men. When my son left after the 6 months, he went to live in a sober living home, much like the ones that John and his wife run, and he stayed for a year.. All I know is my son was willing to make the effort and today he is a new person. Today he has almost 3 years clean and serene...I pray this helps you and your son in your attempt to find a rehab. Keep believing in Miracles, because they are happening everyday.
Love in recovery, grammie

Depending on which state you live in, there may be a state sponsored, paid treatment program. However, the qualifying factors can be tough, simply because the demand for the beds are so high, and many go into them from psych hospitals, or detox centers. It takes a pretty good while to get into them if they don't meet immediate need requirements.
As for cost of private treatment/rehab programs. 20-30 thousand dollars is the norm, and after paying this amount, the patient is patted on the butt, and told, "don't drink, go to meetings, and get a sponsor". The only real benefit is that the rehab isolates the alcoholic or addict from their drinking and drugging community long enough for them to get familar with the basic concepts of alcoholism and addiction and recovery from it.
Many that come into the Miracles In Progress Aftercare Recovery Homes cannot get into traditional rehab/treatment programs, or the financial obligation is so much it cannot be met. Alot of times, insurance companies will not pay for more than 10 days of a 21-28 day program. So, for whatever reason, they decide that MIP recovery homes is a viable option. And fortunately it has worked very well for the majority of them. It separates them from the environment that jeapardizes their individual efforts to recover, away from the drinking and drugging environment and friendships. Gets them immediately involved in the recovery process by requiring they attend 5 AA or NA 12 Step meetings per week in the community here, plus two in house meetings, obtain a sponsor within a specified time frame to start them in the 12 Step work process, and provides them the structure and immediate environment support network that is conducive to recovery.
We do not provide a detox environment. They have to be detoxed when they arrive. What we provide is the opportunity to learn how to live clean and sober, after they have already been detoxed. They have to be willing to make a six month committment, gain employment, adhere to house guidelines, etc. with the primary focus on their recovery. The committment time frame is often modified for those who have family awaiting their return, such as a wife and kids, or an employment obligation. Often 90 days, (3 months) is sufficient to bring about the changes that are nescessary to enhance the potiential of recovery that has longivity.
This provides them with a opportunity to recover at the cost of only 2,380.00 for the whole six months. Paid at 95.00 per week, with only a 100.00 non refundable entry fee.
Something similar may also be available in your own community.
