Giving a cat a bath any time is not a happy fun time. However when you have a Pipers Kitty who trots through the door and her back is full of grease.....well let's just say the Serenity Prayers over and over again.
I gave her a bath yesterday along with a Fancy Feast to say "I'm sorry." Now if that isn't typical codependent behavior I don't know what is. Apologizing for doing something that is good for them? What am I apologizing for? Several hours later, her back is STILL greasy. Well if she's going to be upset w/me for one bath, what's difference does it make if I give her a second bath? So this time I grab the Dawn dishwashing liquid. It's what they use on animals when they get caught in oil spills. So here we go again. Bath #2. Now she's really angry at me. But I stand firm, say the Serenity Prayer again.
This morning? STILL greasy. It would have helped if I had washed her tail. Okay so I let her out and have some fun. I errands, talk to the vet and she tells me to keep washing her w/Dawn. The worst that can happen? Her skin dries out a bit. Better that than greasy. But I'm feeling guilty again, so naturally I have to pick up a toy and check my supply of Fancy Feast. Get home and grab her again. Now why does she run away when she hears the bath water?!! Bath #3!! Another Fancy Feast and toy. Yes I keep saying that Serenity Prayer all the while holding on to her collar. Please oh please let this be the last one for a while!
Now she's asleep on the pillow. Her fur smells better and she's purring away. Ahhh...Serenity for all. Proof positive that if this program works for giving a cat a bath, it'll work for anything else. Much love and blessings to you and your families, and all the critters running amok!
Go to Lowe's and get yourself a tube of GOO GONE. That's a super de-greaser. Rub that liberally into the cat's coat. Let it stay for a few minutes. SHe won't like it of course, but never mind that. Next, bathe the cat in Dawn which is another great de-greaser. What you have then is a cat with a soft, lovely coat ready for the show ring. And you DO want Pipers to look ready for the show ring, don't you??????
Love,
Diva
