Hi all - I read often but comment rarely. I have been on the board for several years through AH's rehab in '05, immediate relapse, chronic drinking. I asked him to leave last December and he moved out 12/26. In the entire time we were together (12.5 yrs) he was never sober for more than 2.5 months (which he achieved once). He quit drinking the day I asked him to move out and will celebrate 12 months of sobriety on 12/3. He has also lost 100lbs and gotten a new job. I am very happy for him.

My life without him has been excellent. Such a huge burden has been lifted and I am free to live a normal life. I have met a great person who loves me and is as close to an equal partner in life as one can get.

I don't have any regrets about my marriage with the exception that I wish I had set my boundaries sooner and stuck with them. Telling him that I would leave "one of these days" did nothing but prolong an unpleasant situation. On the other hand, I guess you do what you have to do only when you are ready to do it, and I can easily live with that.

I still need to read here when my self confidence starts to slip and I begin to question myself. This board centers me. I will begin commenting on occasion to those who could hopefully benefit from my experiences.

Best wishes to you all, Babysteps

That sounds so close to a "happiness" share babysteps, I'm gonna file it in my
memory under that title.   It works when you work it.  (((((hugs))))) smile
