Bravo to my AH. Today is nine months sober for him! It is the longest he has been sober since he and I have been together. We were talking last night and he said, "I would have had 13 years if I didn't start drinking again when we got together 8 years ago." Hmmmm, what the heck does that mean... I know I didn't cause it, can't control it and can't cure him. I am proud and supportive (but not obsessed). So, for those newbies... it is a tough road. He has been going to AA for over 20 years! He does well as long as he keeps going to meetings. And I needed the AlAnon tools. Way to go, hubby!! Keep up the good work!
I learned never to take personal anything the alcoholic said...I don't think he was blaming but feeling remorse like I see alot of alcoholic due because of relapses. They go back to 1 and sit in the rooms with other alkiest that keep adding to a higher number. I am a double and will affirm any relapser who had long sobriety and went back out. If they hadn't died and came back in the time they had before is real sobriety and the disease doesn't care about numbers...It never sleeps. Good he is back for him...great!! That you are in Al-Anon recovery is marvelous and that is where your miracles will come from; your recovery...not his. Congradulations to you and to him also.
