im doing alanon online only as im scared to go to real life meeting but im told your meant to have a sponser to help you go thru the steps properly now i dont have one how do you get one or do you get one when your only doing it online you see i want to do this right
"If you keep and open mind, you will find help." For me this was the first suggestion I got and took when getting into the Al-Anon Family Groups. You will hear that at the end of every face to face meeting you will go to ...then still you are afraid of the face to face rooms so okay, Just For Today you're asking "what about on line?"
Courage is one of the tools we come to understand that we need and we work on getting in our tool boxes. The solution will be to ask someone until someone accepts. Sponsoring is not a must or half to for membership so be prepared for a no if you get it or a yes if you get that. The program suggest women on woman and men on me for obvious reasons while still I know there are and have been variations of that rule. The most honest for me is what the program suggest. Still you can have a temporary while the desire to work the program is at its most urgent and continue looking for a sponsor that appears best able to assist your recovery.
Ask someone with time in recovery and who will tell you their story up front as to how they got here, what they learned and how life is for them today. Ask.
Shelly, Have you been going to meetings in the room???
For me I found someone who has what I want. I listen to shares and just the recovery coming from them. I also found someone who I like and who once I got over myself (that's a me thing probably not something you are dealing with) I would be able to trust.
Most people who are on the board also have the same nick in the room, but that isn't always the case.
Take your time get to know someone and let your HP guide you. Maybe put out in chat that you are looking for one see who responds.
Good Luck.
Yours in recovery, Mandy

I've found that f2f sponsors are best, but I also sponsor someone on-line, and that has been going pretty good too. So I guess it's what works best for you. My sponsor is a f2f sponsor. All the suggestions that have been given here are good ones and all that I can all add is be sure that your at least going to the on-liine meetings and see who you might "click" with there. Good luck to you! Just remember all you have to do is ask!

Those are all suggestions. Certainly this board has been immensely helpful to me. I have a sponsor and many many books on the steps. I find myself working them regardless of my intention. I believe that is some of the miracle of the program. Take it easy on yourself. Maresie.
Having a sponsor is really helpful for getting another person's viewpoint. It is a way to "talk things over, reason things out" . I was shy about getting a sponsor at my f2f meeting. For online, I know I have heard people talking about sponsoring online. I'm sure if you ask around during chat or before / after the meetings that it won't be long until you find one. Maybe there is somebody thinking about how great it would be to have a sponsee to share program with ..
