The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Today's reading (Oct. 3) in One Day at a Time in Al-Anon, reminded me that sometimes I need to be gentle with the newcomer. They are not familiar with all our slogans and sayings. I don't want them to feel the outsider or act as if I have it all together and that they just need to 'snap out of it'.
I don't know what another person is going through, from abuse issues inside the home, to being on welfare, to not having enough to provide for their families basic needs. I do not need to flaunt my own success in al-anon, I let it speak for itself.
The loving interchange and help among al-anon members will guide the newcomer to a sponsor that can be understanding and sensitive to their needs. It is a great blessing to help a newcomer to navigate the waters of this tumultuous ride.

What a great share, and great reminder to us all.... Oops, I always have to watch for spraining my ankles, each time I step off my soapbox.... Humility is a great thing, and alcoholism & it's associated traits keep us coming back there.... When we think we know everything, we probably do NOT... :)
Thanks
Tom

I know when I was a newcomer which still seems like yesterday I wanted to be fixed immediately and if I wasn't I immediately launched into an anti group mode. I am rather embarassed that I was so naive.
