Thank you to everyone for your comments and nurturing support regarding my post last night. I really appreciate the warm encouragement. I am literally taking one minute at a time.
I particularly appreciated the encouragement about sponsorship. I do not have a sponsor, and I feel so weird about asking someone to be this for me. I worry that I will be too "high maintenance" and an energy vampire to someone. I want someone who is very directive and "tough" to help me grow. It feels weird for me to ask for help on such a personal level. I've been filling myself with reading and an occasional call to someone on the meeting call lists, but I admit, I do need something more.
I know that securing a sponsor is really the next step for me to fully work this program....does she have to be someone that lives close to me? The meetings I attend regularly are about 30 minutes away because they fit best in my schedule. How do I know who is willing to be a sponsor? Any thoughts and experience on sponsorship are welcome.
Aloha 3Lkttns and good to have you processing and reaching out for direction. That is what sponsorship is all about. For me I let the group sponsor me until I was ready to attempt a one on one with another member with time. When I got ready I looked for a sponsor that had qualities I desired and then asked with an open mind and no expectations. That worked best for me. The reward? First I got to stay alive and next recapture some sort of sanity and then a working version of how to work the program and then some special tools that only that sponsor had.
