Hello! My name is Kara.  I am a new member and thought I would introduce myself.  I am 27 years old and have been married to my husband for a year and a half.  He is a recovering alcoholic and addict.   I am a mother of 3 boys, ages 5, 3, and 5 months.  My oldest two were from a previous marriage.  My husband, just got out of a rehab center and I am having a hard time getting my schedule to work out so I can actually make a meeting in person.  His counselor at rehab, gave me this site to look into and get info from the internet.  He is doing a great job and has completed his program at rehab and is now doing his 90 meeting in 90 days.  However, I need all the help I can get to also get through this difficult and trying time.

Aloha Kara...This suggestion worked for me also.   Do 90 meetings in 90 days in
the Al-Anon Family Groups for yourself only and then see what happens.  I know
that lots of places don't have that many meetings and that kids can get in the way
of that cause I've seen that happen to lots of the sisters in Al-Anon and having said
that look in the white pages of your phone book for Al-Anon and call that number
to see when and where the meetings are available and make your plans on that.

I wish you well.   (((((hugs))))) smile

Welcome, Kara. While making face to face friends with people with these experiences is ideal, I find that reading the posts on this site is so very helpful. Plus, I can read faster than many people share in meetings and I am not always the best listener..... oops. Welcome and keep on your track!

All you can do is support him in his recovery, only he can work his program and stay clean....you my dear sister, can come here this site also has on-line meetings.....they  helped me very much when  I couldn't get out to meetings.

You have found a wonderful place there is very much knowledge in this room...very much life experience....once again Welcome so glad you are here.

Hello and welcome Kara, so glad you found us.

If you're brand new to this program I would like to suggest a daily reader, One Day At A Time In Al-Anon or Courage To Change, along with one of our bigger reads, How Al-Anon Works For Families & Friends Of Alcoholics (one of my personal favs), or Paths to Recovery, and since at this moment you aren't attending a meeting where you can purchase any - there is a link on this website, or go through the WSO (there is a link in our Frequently Asked Questions) and or Amazon.
When you're able to attend a f2f (face to face) meeting, you'll receive a Beginners Packet, in it there's usually a great piece of our literature called:
A Merry Go Round Named Denial, there is a link to this pamphlet a few posts below this one.
Any additional questions you have might be found

http://www.al-anon.alateen.org/english.html

or the FAQS uptop this page

In the beginning we focus on the first three steps,
The Three Cs; We didn't cause the disease. We can't control it. And we can't cure it.
The Slogans and The Serenity Prayer.

Hope you'll keep coming back,
tea2

(((((KL)))))

Welcome to MIP! Alot of experience, strength, and hope here. Get some literature so at least you can do the daily readings - One Day at A Time, Courage to Change, Hope for Today. At some meetings there are kids.

In support,
Nancy
