What are your favorite personal slogans?

I don't mean the ones we all know from AlAnon.

I mean like
"Put down the magnifying glass and pick up the mirror."

That one struck me because I have a real tendency to read the ODAAT with a mindset of what my brother could learn from a reading in dealing with his wife and kids.  It takes a bit for me to stop and look at how the reading applies to me!

Actually, I have come to realize my brothers flaws are often just exaggerated versions of my flaws.  So I am using that to turn my critizism of him into examination of myself.

I am especially interested on slogans for setting and keeping boundries.

Smartkat,
What a great thread.

The one I have been using the most lately is: It is what it is. Yesterday my counselor added to it, she told me I was saying part of a mantra some people use in medittion. "It is what it is, it is the way."

The other one I have been using is short, simple, and to the point. "Shutup" now this is not a work I normally would say to anyone, and my kids know it as one of a few "S" words they are not to say. I say it to me though because my mouth gets me into so much trouble. When I feel the urge to say something I have been telling myself to Shutup, and the cool thing is I listen to me.

My sponsor has said a lot to me lately when one door closes another opens. It reminds me to not look behind me, but to keep my eyes forward.

And the last one I have been telling myself lately is "shoot the dang hamster" When I start obsessing and can't let go...I tell myself OK Mandy shoot the dang hamster already. I can usually get myself to laugh and then move on.

I don't know if any of these will help anyone else..they work for me and have a bit of humor for me...which ALWAYS helps.

Yours in recovery,
Mandy

"My serenity is proportionate to my acceptance."

"You can't control the wind but you can set your sails."

"The mind is like a parachute, it works best when open."

"Thank You God for reminding me not to interfere with Your Divine Plan."

"Listen not to criticisms or accolades both take you off your path." A. Einstein

"Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be." B. Franklin

If you are looking in the past or the future, you're not living in the now.

The present is a gift. The gift is now. Live for today. Live for each and every new moment.

Be gentle with yourself.  Fight for yourself, you are worth it, if you dont who will?
Those are a few I really like.  Perhaps the guidelines for setting boundaries will help u as well, I know they have helped me.

 6 GUIDELINES FOR SETTING BOUNDARIES

  1. HAVE CLEARLY DEFINED EXPECTATIONS.
  2. CLEARLY DEFINED CONSEQUENCES THAT DONT DISRUPT YOUR SERENITY.
  3. SET THEM CLEARLY.
  4. COMMUNICATE THEM THEM  CLEARLY.
  5. ENFORCE THEM CONSISTENTLY.
  6. WITHOUT REGARD FOR THE RELATIONSHIP (RELEASE ANY EXPECTATIONS ABOUT THE OUTCOME).

A couple of my favorites I learned from people here....

Others opinions of me are none of my business...

They are either going to (drink/use/be a jerk... insert your action word here) or not... What are you going to do?

Thank you for posting... Take care of you!

ROFL Mandy!! "shoot the dang hamster" love it love it love it! That one's going into my collection immediately.

One of my other favorites I got from here was "Drop the rock" - telling me to let go ...

I also love and appreciate "Say what you mean, mean what you say but don't say it mean".

Thanks for a great thread ((SK))!

Put on your big girl panties and deal with it.

If you have one foot in yesterday and one foot in tomorrow your pi__ing on today.

Take those ribbons down and let the air out of the balloons, it's time for the pity party to end.

Nothing changes until something changes.

Your opinion of me is none of my business.

If it's six inches away from my nose it's none of my business.

Say what you mean, mean what you say but don't say it mean.

If I have to ask do I or don't I the answer is no.

Letting go is not to care for but to care about.

If God seems far away, who moved?

Some of my faves:

"When you think about your A, imagine her with a great big SSS tattooed on her forehead, and it stands for sick, sick, sick.."

"Don't let life discourage you; everyone who got where he is had to begin where he was." R.L. Evans

"What you think of me is none of my business"

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind" ---Dr. Seuss.

Its not denial. Im just very selective about the reality I accept. (by Calvin, of Calvin & Hobbes)

It's easy for me to point out problems in others. It's the ones in me that count and need correcting.

Words can only be used for one of two things: to "build up", or to "break down".

Believing that the world will treat you fairly because you are a nice person is kinda like believing that the bear won't eat you because you are a vegetarian....

I mentioned one just yesterday that my husband told me years ago!
MY ARMS ARE TOO SHORT TO BOX WITH GOD!
What that means to me is that I have to remember not to get angry & try to fight with God.  He is the one who I need to fight with the least!

Hi All

Today it is KISS Keep it simple stupid

Every day my favorite is this one. I don't know where I picked it up or who I should credit with writing it. I've have it taped to my monitor for the last couple years.

"Every decision that I make stems from what i think i am and represents the value I place upon myself"

I've made better decisions since I put it there LOL
