Question

I have heard alot lately about the book getting them sober by toby rice.  i was just wondering if this book is a good read for families of recovery alcoholics or if it focuses on the active alcoholic.  any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

A lot of people talk about that book here (by toby rice drews) and as I have heard, it is good for early recovery & active addiction, as it speaks to both scenarios.  It is informative and enlightening, should help u out either way.

I haven't read it. I would like to at some point. I would also like to read A Million Little Pieces as that was a popular book awhile back from the addict's perspective.

Neither are conference approved.

I have found any and all information in regards to alcoholism has helped me understand and heal.

Good luck!!

Hello!

Getting Them Sober is a good book. There is one that truly helped me understand the addiction process and cycles called The Addictive Personality. I am not sure if it is conference approved but it somehow made me understand when other books did not. One Day At A Time is another personal favorite.

I have never read the book , but Al-Anon publishes books on  sobriety one of the best ones for me is the Dilema of the alcoholic Marriage  talks about our fears , our method of communication and offers great solutions to living with alcoholism drinking or not
Also  Living with sobriety is awsome , but all of our literature and meetings , anything u read or hear works wether the alcohlic is still drinking or not .
Once an alcoholic always an alcoholic . If your not already attending meetings for yourself I hope u consider doing so ,  early sobreity can be very difficult for every one involved  and u need support , Sober is not the answer to all of lifes problems . The best way to support he alcoholics efforts at soberity is to get my own program , and stay out of his face , this is his disease and the method he chooses to recover from it is up to him has nothing to do with me .

I think it's the best book on the market, for those living with/around active alcoholism.....  Don't worry too much about the phrase "not conference approved" - only those books written anonymously, via Al-Anon, are "conference approved".  This book is a gem, and I've given away nearly 100 of them via my message at the top of the board.

Take care
Tom
