This is a very bittersweet post for me. I will give you the good news first. Lucas is doing so well. His broken neck is healing very well after surgery. His shoulders and jaw are also healing very well. He had another CT Scan last night and his liver and spleen are no longer bleeding and the swelling is going down. He is enough better that he was moved to the Neurology Floor into a regular room. He is walking, aided by a person on each side. He will probably be in the hospital another week or so, give or take a day or two. From the hospital he will go to an inpatient rehab for a few weeks to get full function back. He is our walking miracle and we are praising God for this.
Now for the tragic part of our story. We lost Lucas' cousin yesterday to another car accident. Her name was Debbie, she was Lucas age and they were very close. Debbie had a four month old baby boy she leaves behind as well as the rest of her family. She was the sweetest most gentle soul on the planet. Our hearts are breaking and we don't understand why our family has to bear this burden. Goodbye my beautiful Debbie.
I am so sorry for your loss. Sometimes life really is bittersweet and I just don't get it. I am happy to hear of your son's recovery. I will continue to keep your family in my prayers. Much love and blessings to you and your family.
