The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Every once in awhile we all need to be reminded, ME TOO, to not copy others material on the message board. Especially things that are not approved.
Also we are not to sell or use this medium as a place to advertise books for sale etc. I will be honest, I don't have a list of approved literature, and really don't have time to check everything.
It is vital we don't do this because we could lose our site here. Please check the "Frequently Asked Questions" about this.
Also we are not to give advice. We share our own experience. We may say what worked for me is, or have you thought about trying this or this?
We never want to use "You need" or "You should" type statements. In telling someone what to do it sets us up to be responsible for the outcome.
I have to remind myself too. Not being one to tell another what to do is not my style, yet I could write it without thinking about what I was doing.
No one has done anything wrong!
Just a couple reminders. What can help is to think about how we act, or see at face to face meetings, it is a pretty good guide as to how to respond here.

Amen Debilyn... couldn't have said it better myself. If people want to PM each other, and give advice, that is totally up to them, but then it is obvious that it is one person to another. The board should not be used for such things.
These two items really are not "negotiable" for the overall safety and integrity of the board.
In support,
Tom

Thanks, Debilynn, Sorry. I think I stepped over the line and I am really, really going to think before I post. I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize this board. I think it is the most helpful place I've ever found. Wanting to fix everything and everybody is one of my big flaws. If I could just turn that around on myself, I'd be getting somewhere.

Copyright refers to the *sale* of literature--as in, if we were trying to make a direct profit off of someone else's work. We, in my observation, are referring peopel to books that work for us, and we, in my observation, believe it would help someone. Ultimately, the person has to go to Barnes & Noble and buy it themselves--they can't buy it from me. CAL is al anon written and sold literature. It can be sold at any intergroup store, Barnes & Noble, amazon.com, and is often talked about here. We recommend talking about experience/strength/hope here, but, technically, this isn't an al anon board. Technically, this is a board for friends/family members of alcholics, and isn't CAL. It just happens, in my observation, that many of us go to Al anon/alateen and use the al anon 12 steps.

Rosie says____ I don't ever want to harm anyone either....I would rather give it up if I am not a blessing....to harm , intentionally is NOT my thing.........If I ever harmed anyone on this board, I DO apologize......
Yes, there is advice all over the board - but it is MUCH less than other recovery boards I have visited and I appreciate that. Yours in recovery,
Tricia
I look at the heart of the "advisor"...if it is out of the heart, Isay "thank you God, they cared enough about me to aknowledge me".....There is the opton, to "take what works and leave the rest".....I use that.....
