Taking care of yourself first was one of the first things I heard when I walked through the doors of Al-Anon 2 1/2 years ago. After a few meetings it hit home with me and I have done my best to do that very thing. Yet, I was reminded once again last Tuesday night at my Al-Anon meeting that I don't always do a good job of that.
Since I am the only male along with 12 or 14 females that attend, I have always made it my job to serve and refill the ladies coffee at least once during the meeting. I know in the long run it is in my best interest, LOL. Some prefer decaf, others regular, (or 100 proof), as I understand the AA's call it. Well, Tuesday night as luck would have it the meeting was on what else but "Taking Care Of Yourself First". I had gone around the room and refilled each of the ladies cups and returned to my chair when I looked down at my cup an realized I had not given myself a refill. My cup was empty and so were both coffee pots, decaf and 100 proof. My good friend Debbie was sitting to my right and realized what I had done. I looked at her as she was smiling and shaking her head at me, then she whispered. RLC, what is the program on tonight?
It made me realize I still have a lot of work to do!!!!!!
Hi RLC, Thanks for your honest share. I am reminded that iit is progress not perfection and if I have an alanon" slip" iby doing a kind gesture at a meeting it is understandable.
As was mentioned-Service work is always important.
I think it's wonderful of you to be so chivalrous. I, too, am chivalrous to the men folk (hmm, do we call it chivalrous when a woman is?????). Anyway, it's amazing how astonished men are when women treat for dinner, give a flower or card, etc.
I think it should be a two-way street. Everything in balance. Way to go ((((RLC))))).
in recovery, Maria

You're a good man Charlie Brown!! I just love the vision of you and the other members in that room. That was nice coffee or not. I know you can handle not getting the refill from anywhere or anyone. We can't keep it unless we give it away. This is one share I can practice only I'll remember to make more coffee before trying it. Mahalo Brother for the grin...
That put a smile on my face. I am trying to take care of me first. It's been a challenging few days to say the least. Thanks for making me smile. The ladies are lucky to have you and so are we. Cheers! Much love and blessings to you and your family.
Live strong, Karilynn & Pipers Kitty

What a wonderful share. I know you will take care of yourself, after all you have taught me. I know you have recognize the short coming, so to speak and will jump right in and double check yourself. Some slips are alright, another thing you taught me, and service work comes in all forms. Getting coffee is one. Here's a hug ((((((((((RLC)))))))))
