Am I allowed to refer to Karma at Alanon meetings, when sharing?

Karma: Consequences of one's actions.smile

The motives behind an action.

Motivation usually
makes the difference between "good" and "bad", but included in the
motivation is also the aspect of ignorance; so a well-intended action
from an ignorant mind can easily be "bad" in the sense that it creates
unpleasant results for the "actor".smile

For me Karma is the law of causes and effects in the subconcious and concious mind.

I don't know why not unless you are talking some kind of religious practice as a
step to recovery for the group.   If Karma is a part of your own personal recovery
practice and you're not trying to convince any other members that they should
practice the same thing...I've learned that its acceptable.   Not everyone in the
meeting may like it but liking it isn't required.

According to Merriam Webster Karma is a Hindu or Buddhist belief concerning transmigration to the next life.

If you are talking about karma biting the A in the behind or in some other type of "payback" scenario, I would only ask what it has to do with YOU and your recovery...

Yours in Recovery,

Hi Mia

Al-Anon does ask/suggest that we examine our motives when reflecting on our actions.
We are encouraged to not label an action good or bad but to simply dig deep enough to find our deep motive for doing or saying or acting in a certain manner.

Before al-anon I always thought my motives were pure and "Good" and should generate "Good Karma"
.
Using al-anon tools and digging much deeper to review  my past actions, I  have found that behind even my "Good, Kind and Generous" actions I was motivated by a very basic human emotion "Fear".

Fear of not getting what I wanted, Fear of loosing what I had and Fear of living life on life's terms.

The only tool that I could use that would enable me to act with true compassion and respect for my fellow man and not out of Fear was: Faith in a Higher Power.

I see no problem with you referring to Karma in your alanon share

Keep coming back
