question about meeting being subsidized

Question for the old timers...

There's a new meeting being set up. It's about 2 months old and is about 1/3 business meeting every week because of it- oi!

But that's not my question- it'll work itself out.

My concern is that they've made a deal with the church where it meets to pay 10% of the 7th Trad collection as rent. That means that rent each week is about $2.  (The going rate in our area would be $15-$20 for a room that's MUCH less cush. This room is wonderful!)

Does it seem reasonable to bring up the "self-supporting" thing? Am I being "overly nice," as my grandmother would say?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi,
It sounds as if you negotiated a rental fee  as a % of the contributions.  This is true to the 7th tradtion.  Since this is a new meeting the attendence is low.  Hopefully the meeting will grow and with that the contribution will increase.

We have a meeting in a great room at a VA Hopsital.  The government refuses to accept "rent" so in the tration of being self supporting the group donations 40% of the to the Veterans Patient Fund.  The hospital accepts that and we feel we are living up to th 7th Tradition.

I believe your group will expand and the contirbution will be equal to others in time.

Good question

Thanks, Betty. Glad there's a precedent!

One of my f2f, a small group, used to meet in a room of a business that didn't require rent.  This was before I attended, so I'm not positive of the particulars, but every so often (monthly?) the group would donate an Alanon book to a local library or school, and that was how they squared their 7th Tradition.
