Detoxing from My A Hubby

I think I have detoxed, if you want to call it that!  My A has been in recovery (inpatient) for 72 hours right now.  It is wild!  I thought he would leave, I would rejoyce and he'd get the help he needed and I'll get well.  NOT...I had to go through a little process of my own.  After three days of pulling myself out of the bed, having foggy thoughts, eating only junk fast food, I think the fog has cleared.  Last night I went to the grocery store, got some healthy food and woke up this morning rejoyced.  I have 10 years of damage from living with an A to undo.  I hope I don' t relapse.

P.S.  My retreat starts tomorrow evening.  I'm not comfortable being with a bunch of strangers, but I know I will relate to them so much.  I'm sort of relieved that it is finally here.

Sincerely,

Good for you for "Going anyway", So proud of ya... :) And the strength it took to "Get Up and Get Moving" is great as well... ;) You are doing it! One Day AT A Time... That is what we all are trying to learn slowly, and the fact that you have 10 years to make up for, please be gentle on yourself, and enjoy the ride to recovery the best you can...

I don't know about anyone else, but I am excited to hear of your trip! I have never been to one myself being the "newbie" I am/was... But I am looking forward to going to a couple events myself... Ours are later in the year, so can't wait...

Keep Coming Back... And you have nothing to fear about your trip, but fear it's self, and remember, half the people there are having those SAME Feelings... Make new friends, and make new connections Outside your every day... May do ya some good :)

Good Luck...
Take what you like and leave the rest...

I had to detox from my AH when he went into rehab, too. It took me a long time--certainly longer than the 28 days he was at the center. But, I got a good start on it. Make the most of this time. Start to retrain your brain to think about yourself first, before the A. You can do it. Just take it one day at a time and keep coming back.

Yours in recovery,

SLS

WOW!  That is exactly what I did the first two weeks of my hubby being away at inpatient treatment.  I kept beating myself up that I was wasting the time while he was gone, and "should" be getting more done.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for posting this; for helping me to see that it is common to do just those things while we "detox" ourselves.  What a miracle this program and the fellowship is!

How appropriate!!  Of course I needed to detox also.  She was addicted to booze
and I was addicted to her.   I needed to detox.  Great share.
