Went to First f2f meeting last night. Now what?

I am new to Al-anon. I went to my first real meeting last night. I was late because I wasnt going to go, but I ended up changing my mind at the last minute and I went.
Im very happy that I went, because it was so comforting to see that there are others out there who feel or once felt exactly like I am feeling now-lost, lonely and hopeless.

Anyway, when I walked in they were sharing about Step 3 so I just listened to everyone's experience. At the end of the meeting, I was given a newcomer packet and everyone was nice and said to keep coming back.

My question is, what do I do now until the next meeting? Should I read up on Step 3 and go from there, or do I start with Step 1? Are they going to talk about Step 4 at the next meeting?

I found the pamphlets in the Newcomer packet very helpful, and I have some books with daily readings that my mother-in-law gave me that are helpful. But I dont know where to go from here.

Please help! Thanks :)

M Mommy (((((HUGS)))))

Welcome to the MIP Family...I am glad that you got yourself to the meeting...

From my exp. all the meetings are differant, You are to work your program as you see fit, but you don't get the effect inless YOU start from 1 and work your way... that could have been your topic becasue it was the third month, or because someone chose to talk about it...

As for what to do till your next one... Keep coming back to here... This board, and chat rooms are great for keeping you focused on YOU and you will learn so much it will amaze you...

You took a big step get'n to the meeting, now all you have to do is keep up the good work and "Keep coming back".... Can't wait to hear your shares and help out when i can...

Hi M'sMommy,

I am so very glad you found the courage to attend yur first meeting.  Jozie has given you great suggestions.

I would like to add that  you  try to read from the daily reader each morning, attempt to make a gratitude list each day and again keep coming here and sharing as often as you need.

Thanks for your share

Congratulations on your first meeting--it takes alot of courage to walk into the rooms for the first time. You won't regret it.

I would suggest that you consider picking up some Al-Anon literature to keep you going until your next meeting. The daily reader, Courage to Change, is great. I would also recommend the book How Al-Anon Works for Families and Friends of Alcoholics. It is a great introduction to the Program--the Slogans, the Steps, the Traditions.

Remember to keep the focus on you and keep coming back!!

Yours in recovery,

SLS

((((Ms Mommy))))))
First of all B R E A T H E-lol!!!

When I was newer I read my daily readings, and came here and posted a lot!  I found a sponsor as soon as I could because I wanted to dive in and get as much out of the program as I could-I knew I needed one on one guidance and help and was blessed with finding an A1 sponsor.
Today I have finished my first round through the 12 steps.  I still have 3 daily reading books I read, I also post alot, try to help others, and attend meetings weekly.
You will find a routine that works best for you and it will all become part of YOUR program....this time around it's all about you, so enjoy it:).  Take care of you, focus on you and pamper you:)
Most importantly........keep coming back-it really does work IF you work it:)

Get your hands on everything you can about codependency and read it. Go to www.coping.org and read up on detachment.  Go through this site and post to every thing that you can relate to. Dive in.
