ALAnon anniversary

Yesterday was the 16th anniversary of my first alanon meeting.  My husband has been sober 2 of those 16 years...right now he is not.  I have kept attending my meetings, kept doing service work, kept doing online chats, message baords and meetings.

I know alanon saved my sanity and my marriage and probably even my life.  It took patience, hard work and time, but I am a totally different person today and I owe so much of it to my alanon program.

If you are new to alanon...stick with it...attend your face to face meetings...get a sponsor and work the steps.  You'll be amazed at how your life can change!

WOW!  I would love to hear your story.  Is there a way you can post it here... like a speaker meeting or something?  I would love to hear your wisdom and experience of living with an active alcoholic.

My husband is sober right now and is going to AA meetings.  However, in the last 8 years he has had this pattern of not drinking, go to meetings, stop going to meetings, start drinking, drinking gets worse, finally stops drinking again, goes to meetings ... and so it goes.  He has over 25 years in AA and the longest stretch of sobriety was 5 years and that was before we married.

Glad to hear your good news!

(((((Lin))),

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!  clap.gif  This program certainly is a lifesaver.  You are an inspiration to many of us here.  I too can remember feeling desperate, confused, and at my wits in.  Alanon embraced me, and gave me the tools I needed to heal.  Enjoy your anniversary.  Go out and do something extra nice for yourself. cake.gif  Much love and blessings to you and your family.

Live strong,

Congrats to ya... 16 was always my "lucky" #, so I hope to one day meet that mark as well... I am pretty new here, about 2.5 months now... I already have learned so much and love the people and the ESH that those take to think of me in my pain, or happiness. I have never been ungrateful, for I know things can change in an instant and you have to find a way to cope... But AL-anon has told me how to except, and detach with Love, Think about ME instead of everyone else, listen to my HP, and be open minded about things in front of you. Only person I can change is ME...

Very happy that you are still here, and I pray that you keep coming back and sharing your ESH...As you have found "It Works If You Work It"...Thanks for sharing your successes, we all need HOPE...

Thank You for your inspirational share.

You are living proof that, with this program: "we can find serenity and even happiness even if the alcoholic is still drinking or not."

The Program has also worked mircles in me and my attitude toward life and  others.

Again Thanks for you Share

thank you for celebrating.  I've been here 4 years. I first went to al anon about 20 years ago. I hated it.  I had such an aversion to the meetings I went to. I had friends who swore by it but I could not get on board until my life was an absolute hell hole.

well done, I too have benefited from alanon, my brother is still drinking but though I still worry sometimes more than others, I know that I cannot control these outcomes and this is a blessing from all the anxiety

Thanks for all of the well wishes!  I know it saved my marriage and my sanity. Going to my meetings and changing the things I can has been exactly what I needed Finding my HP again. Realizing I was not alone.  Like it says in teh closing.."you may not lIKE all of us but you'll love us in a special way"....

If I did nto liek the people at my group, I'd jsut find another group. We have several meetings a wek. If I only had a problem with one or 2, I'd jsut let it go and keep going. I know it helps. I did not go to get him to stop drinking. I go for ME. I go to make MY life better. It works

Somebody asked me to share my story...I have done speaker meetings several times over the years. It was awesome. I am not sure how long a post can be here, But maybe I will share some of my story when I get a chance. Thqnks for asking.
