Therapy??

I wanted to ask you that have been in therapy or going through therapy now, has it helped you?

Can going through this process give you any relief?

I can feel myself going backward, I may pull out of it by myself, but if therapy helps I am open to it.

I understand that no two people are alike and what may work for one person may not work for another.  I would just like some input.

Thanks.

I've been in therapy for some time now and I can honestly say that it has helped me get to some root issues that I may not have fully been able to dig out with al-anon alone. I definately suggest that you get a therapist that recommends al-anon groups, there are some that just don't get it and how it helps.

I asked a therapist, some years ago now, what he thought about al-anon and he said he thought it was a bunch of old ladies getting together to gripe about their alcoholic husbands. I counted him out immediately! That doesn't happen too much anymore, most suggest that you go to al-anon, if you have an alcoholic in your life.

I also go to a pschiatrist because I am on antidepressents and have had to be hospitalized, out-patient, for depression. I think if I had got in therapy sooner maybe things wouldn't have escalted like they did. I hope my post doesn't scare you away from therapy, it's just my story, and like you said we are all different.

((((Dreams)))))
I too, have been struggling with feeling like I was going backwards, and torn between that and not moving at all.  For me patience is NOT a good point:)
I read somewhere that we all have "gray days"....days where we just are, and feel the same old feelings coming back, but they are just that gray days and they will pass....take it a minute at a time if you have to.
Sometimes I have found that when I am in a spot where I feel gray that I am there as part of a learning experience my HP has in store for me, and when I am done learning whatever it is He wants then I will move on with ease and naturalness........in His time, not mine.
Hope this helps some, just know you are not alone in those feelings.
Keep coming back
Shelly

I have been in therapy off and on throughout my life since I was 19 and believe it has been very beneficial to me as I grew up in a very dysfunctional home laced with alcoholism. I highly recommend it but you need to find a great therapist- there are plenty of dogs out there so take your time and find one that works best for you. Interview them. Jean

I have been in therapy on and off for about 25 years!  I love the therapist I have now.  I found her by doing a Google search and then a search on Psycology Today (I think).  That search allowed me to narrow the search to my area and to addictions.  She really helps me communicate and to trust my feelings.
