My name is Portia. I am from Southern California. I learn of this message board through searching on the web. I hope to learnand meet others as well. I currently am doing meetings online. today it is a little difficult and I hope as times goes by things will improve in my life. I do have an ABF who is still in the disease. I never thought I would ever go through this at all. I have come across others who have in the past and present and hoped it would not happen to me. Well, now that I am here, I need lots of support from others. I am also blind and have been for about 26 going on 27 years now. Well, I don't want to go on too long. Just wanted to give you a little about me. Take care Portia
angelpm39 ((((HUGS)))) Welcome to the family, I hope that you keep coming back and really work your program for the greater good of yourself... It does work if you work it, for i am living proof, that "one day at at time" is all I can handle, but that is all that I need too...
There's lots of literature about this disease. I am sure you've read a lot of the posts that talk about the literature.
For a newcomer, I always recommend One Day At A Time in Alanon (little blue book). It's a great daily reader. There's tons more. I was like a sponge when I first got into recovery, what a blessing!

Read everything you can lay your hands on. The Getting them Sober series is very powerful. In fact one of our members is offering the book free (look for that at the top of this page). Read every piece of al anon literature you can lay your hands on as well as stuff on codependency, especially Melodie Beattie and Pia Melody.
