Just a gentle reminder about the freezing cold weather. Here in the northeast we are at a balmy -3 degrees below zero. That is the predicted high for today. Please check on your neighbors that are elderly or might be sick. If you are having problems with your heating, please don't use your ovens to heat your homes with. A friend of mine is a fire chief and he responded to a home that was destroyed. The cause was the oven was being used to heat the house, because the poor family couldn't afford to pay their bills. How sad. There are shelters that are open if your apartment or house has no heat. There are agencies out there to help.
Remember to dress in thin, light layers. Do not use 100% cotton or wool directly against your skin. As you sweat the moisture does not get wicked away, but rather sits against your skin. That's how you get chilled. Wool blended socks and clothing is best. There are clothes out there that are labeled for cold weather (i.e. cold gear, cold clothing, etc.). Stay inside if you can. Stay well hydrated. Don't forget that you need more liquid because you are expending more energy to keep you warm. Keep those heads and ears covered. Those little carbon foot and hand warmers work great too.
Make sure your car is running and has plenty of fluids. (This coming from a woman who doesn't drive I know! ). Keep an extra first aide kit in the car along with bottled water, food , blankets, etc in case you get stuck.
Check on your furried friends. Pipers has no desire to go out. She's laying on her cable box getting warm. Make sure they have plenty of food and water. You all know what to do.
I have been out sick for the past few days. Nothing major, but I'll stay home and use some personal time. As much as I love the snow and cold, even I don't walk to work unless I have too. I can take the bus. But I'll be under the covers the rest of the day. Hopefully getting some rest. At least I can catch up on some reading and drink ginger tea.
Please, please be careful out there. It can be so dangerous. I wouldn't want anything to happen to any of you. Time for me to crawl back into bed. Much love and blessings to you and your families. Love to our furried friends too.
Live strong,
Karilynn & Pipers Kitty

Thanks for the tips Karilynn!! It sure is cold here! Windchill and all. And this morning one kid didn't shut the front door properly, the other kid said "no the dog didn't get out!" and off we went to school. I got home 3 hours later and the dog was standing outside at the front door looking at me like "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??????" Poor mutt!!!
When I lived in the woods, both my dogs had run of the woods and were out alot even in this type weather. They LOVE the snow. But since I moved into the village I have them shaved and they are older so they don't stay out too long anyway. But this morning he had run of the village! Little stinker.
Sorry to hear you have not been well. I live in California so cold weather is not an issue for us at the moment. I just received a lovely coat and I'm the only one who is wishing that it would get cold so I can wear it.
sorry you are not feeling too well. Hoping for your quick recovery. Your post reminded me of a time when we lived in an apartment without heat and we did use the stove as a heat source. Didn't have a choice. It is cold here too now in SC, below zero in the mornings.
A few cats that live outside have torn up some insulation underneath our house so stay warm. I think there are kittens under there too. I plan on calling the shelter about it when I can find out where they are. I think they are warm though but still feel bad.
I always dress in layers, it's a good way to stay warm. The heating costs worry me as our last bill was twice as much as the month before and the torn insulation doesn't help it either, neither does my bf's odd body temperature that seems to be around freezing. He gets cold so easy, he's cold when I'm comfortable. We'll get tru it though.
Our kitties haven't done much since it's been colder. They make a living out of doing nothing most times and I love watching them sleep. They are so adorable.
Thanks Karilynn. Whether we are in Alanon or not, we need to watch over each other. We had one heck of a holiday. Snow and more snow here in the southwest. Spot is on my lap and Pepper (the dog) is on her bed.
