Hernia surgery was more extensive yesterday as it was twice the size surgeon expected, so he had to use mesh to repair. Thank God youngest AD has been around to help. I have a drain in until Monday, of course no showers till then, and wearing a binder to help with the pain.
I try to stay away from any strong narcotic pain killers, but am so glad for what was prescribed in this case as even coughing is excruciating!
HP works in mysterious ways as youngest AD's hours have been cut at work due to the economy, and there is no way I can drive myself to campus next week to get my text books for spring semester. Classes start on the 19th, so I will be off the pain meds by then and with a clear head.
Recovery will be slow going, but acceptance of my limitations is a good thing. Just taking it easy, trying to move a little more each day, while still getting periods of rest in.
Will check back in later on, and sending out prayers for all my Alanon friends here at MIP.

Glad your surgery went well. I admire your tenacity. That is something that can often be seen as a defect according to some. I have always seen that quality as beneficial. It's what keeps us on our steady path of recovery, even when we slip. Take good care of yourself. Have a good semester. I know you will be fine. Much love and blessings to you and your family.

Good to hear from you, been wondering how the surgery was, etc. You are always in my best thoughts and prayers! Heal fast and well my friend- much love, J.
Oh of course...keep that cough suppressant close by. I'm too chicken to get mine fixed so I've given it a name and love it like a brother...sister?? Can we gender a hernia...hmmmmm
Hope your's heals quickly and stay away from real good jokes.
Glad to hear you have the surgery behind you. I too am in recovery for some surgery over the holidays and will pass on this tip. I learned to grab a pillow to hold over the pain area (even with a binding) when I cough as it keeps the area more stable and not so painful when coughing or even laughing too. Wishing you a speedy recovery but don't over do too soon.
hugs, ddub

Jerry, good thing I had a pillow in front of me as you did make me laugh with naming your hernia! LOL!
Ddub, I hope you are healing well! ((((hugs))))
I was rather surprised to find out that my oldest AD (not in recovery) had put in a prayer request for me at her church, and she and a friend will be coming up tomorrow morning to take me to my appointment to have the drain removed.
My HP works in mysterious ways as I wasn't sure how to get there because youngest AD will be out of town at her ortho's for a checkup after her knee surgery!
