Miracles In Progress Al-Anon Family Group Turns 10 years old!

2008

Hello Family and Friends of Alcoholics!

On November 8th, 2008 the Miracles In Progress Al-Anon Family Group will turn 10 years old.  On this date in 1999, the group held its first online group business meeting.  This business meeting started what has turned out to be the spring board for our continued presence on the Internet 10 years later.  We nominated and elected group service positions, established a consistent online meeting schedule, discussed what we wanted and needed to have on our group home page, members presence volunteered to chair a meeting per week in the room, and many other things were discussed and voted on, which resulted in the firmly establishing of this group in cyberspace.

Today, some of the orginal members are still with us, and many members have been active in the group for 7,8 and 9 years!  Our web site has been viewed over 750,000 times!  Over 200,000 visited us between 1999 and 2002, then we changed the web page a bit, and put a new hit counter at the bottom of it.  That hit counter shows today that 592,935 have visited us in the past 6 years.  Over half a million times!

Our group message board which was also changed in 2002 has over 4,500 registered members, with over 108,000 post.

People from all over the world have come to us for support, understanding, education, healing and growth.  This is were many, literally thousands of people got their first exposure to Al-Anon, and this group has guided them into the rooms within their communities, into the steps, into the literature, and into a life beyond their wildest dreams.

As the founder and webmaster of Miracles In Progress 12 Step Recovery Forums web site, I am honored and humbled by the resilence, the strength, and determination of this group to stand strong, and be present and available to those whose lives are adversely effected by the alcoholism of their loved ones.

In 2005, as a self centered, selfish alcoholic with over 15 years of sobriety, and as a controlling, angry, manipulative al-anon member with over 6 years of active al-anon experience, I had to back away from the online group.  Not only was I being a detirment to the group as a whole, I was personally suffering alot of internal hurt and pain.  So, with a egoistic, grandiose attitude I stepped solidly into the background.

For the next three years I watched this group grow, resolve problems with solutions, hold itself to the highest of standards, adhere to the 12 traditions, and cater to thousands of newcomers, members supporting eachother, sharing both the good and bad experiences life brought our way, held its business meetings, and regular group meetings consistently and witnessed first hand that John F (aka OP_Present) did not need to stay at the helm of anything.  This group had a God of their own understanding, which was powerful enough that it didn't need my almighty help.

Many times I have stated; "I may have built the house, but it is you folks that turned it into a nice warm, comfortable home".

I am a bit relucant to believe that anyone could have grown more than I have as a direct result of this group.  You pushed me to grow, you pulled me to grow, but in the end it all equalled growth for me in my own personal recovery.

Thank you ever so much for loving me, being here for me, and allowing me to be here for you and witnessing the Miracles In Progress that take place every day in this group.

I would like an opportunity to celebrate our 10 year anniversary as a group.  Would you kindly join me in the room on November 8th, 2008 from 7pm - 10pm, for a celebration meeting?  I would love to see each of you there with us on this day.

Thank you for helping me learn, heal and grow.
