I was just reading a response to a prior post, and Canadianguy's mentioning of perspective. He spoke of a friend and her son...with a terrible heart condition...and of their daily bravery and courage. As a mom myself, and a cancer survivor myself....this touches me deeply and makes me remember to get up and get at it! This life is full of wonders that could vanish in an instant and I am so grateful for all that I have learned here that allows me to embrace this attitude and to really live it actively. I have had my fill of worrying about things that I have no control over. I have had my fill of blaming myself for other's behaviors. I let the internal chatter quiet down...and I trust my self and my HP more and more. This perspective really helps snap me out of a rut I can still find myself in. Thank you all! Fifi
Great post Fifi, and I couldn't agree more.... I'm always amazed, and try to emulate, those people who seem to be positive and "glass half full thinking", regardless of their circumstances..... Al-Anon has helped me towards this goal, and I find self-reflection helps quite a lot too.
It's rather empowering, actually, to know that I DO have a choice - even around active alcoholism.....
I can choose to be miserable and be a victim.... I can choose to get healthy, and live a rewarding life....
