AH was in the Cardio Care Unit over the weekend

My AH returned home about a month and half ago. I knew he was having problems with his blood pressure and getting under control. He was taking meds but they weren't working. We went to a cardiologist September 26th and scheduled a heart catherization to see what was going on with his heart. He had a blockage of 50% in one artery about 4 years ago. Well he went in and had the procedure done, they found the blocakge had increased to 75%. So they did an angioplasty and then put a stent in. They were not able to control his blood pressure, so they could not take out the cath. They had to put him on IV nitroglycerin, which apparently is pretty painful, for 5 hours. They kept him over night. His blood pressure is still on the high side but he is taking his meds as directed. He stopped drinking and is quitting smoking, tapering off each day. I know that it is a trying time for him, I am being as supportive as I can without telling him what to do or how to do it. He is a grown man and can make his own choices. So far all of the things he is doing have been his choice. Or rather his heart's choice for him. He is now going on a heart rehabilitation regiment. I pray that he will continue on his path of not drinking and smoking. This is a pretty serious situation and if he does anything "wrong" he can cause a blood clot and then have a heart attack. He also has cardiomyopathy, which is a thickening of the heart muscle mostly due to untreated high blood pressure. He went back to work today, saying that he wouldn't be there all day. I talked to him earlier and he said he was tired, but again it is his choice to stay or come home. I just hope that he doesn't do too much. I love him very much but I can't control him, nor do I want that pressure. I just keep the focus on me and keep busy doing things around the house and for me. I missed coming here over the weekend, he wasn't released from the Cardiac Care Unit until Saturday. I was so flipping tired on Sunday and then he stayed home on Monday and we did some errands, slowly. It was actually nice being around him with him not drinking. I did tease him a little about the kids and not being able to use him for our laughs anymore. I know it's wrong but the kids and I would get a kick out of him sometimes, while he was intoxicated, because he would start on some topic and just go on and on. The kids would say things to instigate him and then we would be laughing. But that was just a joke and he knew that and took it as such. Sometimes you just have to bring humor to a serious situation and I seem to have a knack for that. But I am grateful that I could access the board on my cell phone while I was at the hospital. I am also grateful that he is doing well and I pray that he will continue. I am gratful for the inner strength that comes from my higher power, I feel like I am living the Footprints poem. I don't know how I do it until I look back later and Footprints comes to mind. I am glad to be back on the board and able to post and read. I hope all are well here.

Yours in recovery,

Glad you are back, missed you, but know how good you have become at taking care of yourself, so I was not worried. Wish the best for your AH. I agree with the humor statment 100%. It take less face muscles to smile that is does to frown. RLC
