Gloom and Doom

Good Morning to All! MY youngest son (33) just called and it ALWAYS is him talking gloom and doom. I am SO working on my own recovery in Alanon-working on stress, anxiety etc. with my adult kids and my 83 yr. old MOm. I have health issues of my own.....but this youngest son always calls and usually he is stressed about something. I try and work the program..saying I know you are confident in handling the situation. I know you can do it!! But I get off the phone and totally have to relax as I feel stress and my BP go up. So I am learning to do the "talk" but I sure don't think I can do the"walk", because I have no peace and serenity later. I do try and turn it over....and get busy.hmm Any suggestions?

My BP has been up some lately because I often allow certain situations to get to me.  Be kind to yourself.  Limit the calls. Remember Maria Rua's mandate no FDC.  No Fixing, Directing Controlling!

Keep it very very simple.

When people share their burdens with me now if I feel like I may be sucked in I say very very little. I certainly listen but I offer very little.  If I am around other people in recovery (and they ask for it - often I shared when it was not asked for) I share my ESH but I am at the center of my recovery now.

As Kitty always says keeping the focus on ourselves is so hard but once we keep bringing it back to ourselves we get into that habit in time.

Maresie.
